Everyone thinks you’re strong, but you need help, too.
Are you that person that’s always pouring into others, but you have no one to pour into you? Do you feel like you have to take care of everyone else, but your needs and cries for help seem to go unnoticed?
Maybe you’re asking, “Why can’t I just say no?” or saying, “I try to set boundaries, but I can’t stand to see people suffer when I can help.” You keep showing up for others who don’t show up for you.
Are you coping with transition, grief, or relational issues? Are you feeling overwhelmed because life is life’ing?
Are you looking for a safe place to talk without being judged, a place where you can get things out of your head and off your chest? Let’s talk.
A safe place to get things out of your head and off your chest.
You may have tried managing your feelings and emotions on your own, or talking with someone you trusted. Maybe you were always told that “what happens in the home stays in the home.” Or you’ve been trying to pray your anger or depression away, but you’re still struggling.
This may be your first time in therapy. Or you may have tried therapy but didn’t feel heard, felt judged, or felt uneasy due to a therapist’s personal bias.
I want you to know that you will not be judged or condemned for what you share. Your life experiences, feelings, and emotions are valid, and they matter. Our time together is a place to talk about where you’ve been and where you would like to go from here.
I provide individual and couples therapy for adults ages 18 and older – including those who may be reluctant to see a therapist. My main areas are trauma, relationships, and grief. I also work with adults dealing with anxiety, depression, addiction, and transitions due to major life events.
It’s important to me to be the kind of therapist I’d want to see.
I don’t start the session with my own agenda. I want to know where you are in those beginning minutes.
My approach is conversational and reflective, with more structure initially as we get to know each other. I allow you the space to lead and offer feedback where it seems natural, being careful not to interrupt you or hijack the entire session. Depending on you and our rapport, I sometimes use a bit of humor to offer a different perspective or ease your tension.
I may also offer exercises if you’re open to them, as support for something we’ve discussed. They are not mandatory. I adapt my approach by being sensitive to you and how you show up in any given session.
We’ll explore the patterns and habits that keep you feeling stuck.
The first thing I want to understand is what is bringing you to therapy in this moment. Together, we’ll explore how these concerns show up in your relationships, including patterns and triggers. We’ll explore emotions and feelings that overwhelm you and work on releasing things that have kept you feeling weighed down.
I use dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) to help with intense emotions and self-destructive behaviors. I may also use cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) to help you change how you think about or perceive situations that are affecting your progress.
My hope is that you gain a greater understanding of why you show up in your relationships the way you do, and find a sense of hope for the present and future. That may mean beginning to enjoy life, returning to activities you’ve avoided, and developing a support system that helps those changes continue.
There is room for mind, emotions, and spirit.
For those interested, I offer faith-based therapy for a holistic approach that incorporates mind, emotions, and spirit, including a higher power.
I am currently accepting new clients. I look forward to talking with you, please contact intake (intake@peoplepsych.com or 312-252-5252) to schedule an appointment. My practice is limited to telehealth, and I am open to working with anyone in the state of Illinois. Sessions are conducted via a secure HIPAA compliant video call platform.
